Antelope Island

This post is for all of the bird watchers in our family! I can't stay away from this place...it is a fascinating place with a wonderful variety of birds!

Red-winged Black Bird

A variety of gulls, White-faced Ibis (the black birds), Black-necked Stilts

Black-necked Stilts in flight

Ravens on some old relic in the Salt Lake
Franklin Gull (surrounded by a gazillion brine flies)

The dry shrubs were loaded with these weavers!
Baby Barn Swallows at the Visitor's Center (click on this picture to see the funny tufts of feathers)

Can someone please tell me what kind of bird this is?!

Papa and Billy at the Visitor's Center

We drove to the Ranch, built in the 1800's. Billy is getting ready to rope a calf :-).

Horses on the ranch enjoying mealtime and buffalo resting in the background

A young calf
The scruffiest deer I ever saw

American White Pelicans
A large male Pronghorn Antelope

Killdeer
Eared Grebe

Black-necked Stilt (look at that mass of flies...a tasty lunch for the birds!)
American Avocets (male in front, female behind)

American Avocets in front and a variety of Phalaropes (Wilson's and Red-neck)
Willet

Loved baby swallows - the tufts make them look like those little penguins, like in "Madagascar"...
My best guess on the mystery bird: a juvenile woodpecker - maybe. Going by the tail and wing markings, and long beak, and how it carries itself. Now I'm going to have to do some research, you know we can't rest until we figure it out!!! Great pics, what a wonderful place...

OK, next guess: a juvenile thrasher - maybe. More than likely a Sage Thrasher. Remember the ones at Malheur?
