Whales at Yaquina Head!

When my son Will and his children came to visit in July, we made a trip to Yaquina Head north of Newport, Oregon. It is one of our favorite places on the Oregon coast. We were amazed to see whales right in close!
The picture below is a little calf resting on its mother's back.

Of course everyone had to explore the tide pools. Sheets were handed out and a great scavenger hunt began! AJ with Luke and Jesse
Anne enjoyed helping the kids identify marine life.

There were harbor seals close by.

Will was happy to be at the beach. He misses it!
Anne, Billy and the younger kids.
 Billy helped his younger brothers
 Luke
Drew enjoyed looking for specific items.
 Maggie pointed something out.
Anne helped younger kids navigate the rocks, barnacles and muscles. The trick was to try not to squish them!
Our group relaxed in the sun.

We made a quick stop at Nye Beach afterward. The evening light was lovely. Billy headed back to the car with some chairs.
 Jesse and Drew...good buddies :-)

Great way to end an amazing day!
