England, Ireland, & Wales, Part 2

John took us on wonderful one day trip to Wales. This is Bertie's Bend where John's canoe club often goes.
We stopped at a refuge called Penman Pool. I had to take a picture of this sign! I have no idea how to pronounce those words!
The refuge was beautiful, and I saw a life bird there (a Pied Wagtail).
We spent some time in Barmouth on the coast of Wales.

 The tide was out!

Bill is fancying some fish and chips!
We walked through the town looking for the best place to have fish and chips.

We eventually found a restaurant and had some of the best fish and chips ever!
We continued on to a seaport town. I loved listening to these folks speak their native language.
Looking north to the area of Snowdonia National Park.
 The seaport was very picturesque!

We drove through Snowdonia National Park. It was getting late in the day, but the light occasionally breaking through the clouds was beautiful. This is a popular hiking place!

 An old coach stop
We came to this town near the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
We followed the canal to the aqueduct where John and I walked to the other side. It was 126 feet above the river.

 Looking across at another aqueduct
 Looking down at the river
The canal boats cross over the river on this aqueduct (you can see the canal built into the side of aqueduct). I didn't realize the water was just over my head or I probably would have been too nervous to walk across. The walkway was quite narrow and it was a little nerve wracking meeting people coming the opposite direction! It was much darker than this picture shows, as I lightened it to be able to see the aqueduct and the surroundings. We loved the opportunity to see the beautiful and diverse country of Wales, even if it was all in a day!
